Following a hectic morning and a run in with some headlice (the daughter not me) I went to meet Nicola at Kingstone Pet Boarding. Their family run business provides luxury boarding for cats and small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, mice and tortoises etc. In fact one of the rabbits really loved his photoshoot!!
I've never been to a cattery, kennels or anywhere like that and to be honest I didn't really know what to expect. I was blown away by the set up that Nicola and husband Paul have developed over the last 10 years. Kingston Pet Boarding started life as The Cat Flap and has since evolved, going from strength to strength. The change of name came about as a result of the new services they were able to offer the public.
Over the years their cattery has provided luxury accommodation for feline guests of all ages. They are able to care for cats with extra medical requirements giving owners piece of mind whilst away. All the cats looked well cared for and content in their temporary home from home. Some were slightly more inquisitive than others!!
Inside the cattery I was really surprised by just how homely it felt. The wooden rooms with their jack and jill type annexe that allow them fresh air, sunshine, play area and cat scratching posts are a brilliant idea.
A new service that Nicola is able to offer her feline guests is a Cat spa package. How cool is that???? So, whilst you are relaxing by the beach with your book in hand you can be happy knowing that Misty the cat is having the time of her life! Nicola is dedicated to what she does and it's abundantly clear that she runs her business in a caring, professional manner.
Kingstone Pet Boarding also proudly displays its membership of the UK Kennel and Cattery Association which is a division of the Pet Industry Federation. It's the most up to date accreditation recognised within the industry and supersedes some of the old accreditations that are now no longer assessed. It recognises an organisation that strives to achieve excellence in pet care.
By becoming members of the UK Kennel and Cattery Association she is recognised as agreeing to ensure that accommodation and care meet their exacting standards.
I asked Nicola .... What do you LOVE about the area you live and work in?
She said "Kingstone is a wonderful village set in beautiful countryside. Our home and business is surrounded by farm land with stunning views that change throughout the seasons." I couldn't agree more, views like this visible from inside the cats luxury accommodation make it even more lovely.
Lastly I asked ...... Who has helped you get to where you are? Staff, friends, business partner, partner, business group or other?
"In the early days both mine and Pauls parents helped us considerably. Our children were very young when we took over the business and their help has been invaluable. I would be lost without my good friend Taryna Herbert and of course the support of the wonderful team at Glenthorne Vets in Uttoxeter. Lastly I couldn't leave out our lovely customers, who have over the years been so supportive and kindly recommended us to friends and family."
